Have you completely switched over to the UB of LightWave, or are you still using the CFM version.

I've switched over to the UB version
I still use the CFM version occasionally
I use the CFM version all the time.

Mac OS X User only, are you still running the CFM version of LW?

Hello there,

We're thinking about dropping support for the CFM versions of our plugins to streamline development for Mac OS X.

Any thoughts?

Cheers,
Mike

Hallo Mike,

At POK we stopped working with cfm when the price of intel-macs lowered about 2 years ago. I have a crossplatform BNR renderfarm which operates on win2003-64bit and I needed that to combine with the mac UB's and the mac CFM's. So after endless searching and configuring whe decided never to use the CFM again. I like the idea of 1 pc 64 bit and 1 mac 64 bit versions for all plugins.

CFM rendering is very slow (half the speed!!!! and its not 64 bit) and apple stopped building CFM macs (IBM and motorola chipset) 3 years ago...so why use it?

Greetzzz,

Fabian

Hi Fabian,

From the feedback we got in the past years the only reason to still use the CFM was FPrime. But that has been ported to a UB now.

Did you also vote on the other poll?

Cheers and thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike,

I'm running UB now and haven't used the CFM since FPrime UB came out. We do however still use Tiger on some older machines on our render farm as well as on my DP G5 at home (since I have a few old classic apps I still need).

Thanks. The reason why I'm asking it that 64-bit code needs to be compiled using the 10.5 SDK as a minimum.
And while it is relatively easy to combine 10.4 32-bit code and 10.5 64-bit code in a single UB using XCode, things get _very_ hairy once third party libraries come into play (most of which use a Unix based build system).
Having 10.5 as the minimum would make things a lot easier on our side.

Cheers,
Mike

Hallo Michael,

completely switched to 9.6 UB on MacPro and even upgraded my old G5 to Leopard in preparation to be able to install LW 9.6.1 UB-64 there too.
As this will be the minimum Hard- and Software combination for 64 bit LW on a Mac, I would assume that many G5 users are considering to upgrade to Leopard as a last investment in these machines.
What bothers Mac users most imo is the lack of 3rd party UB plugins and additions (shaders, nodes, ...), and I truly hope that this will change with CORE (but sadly I'm not _that_ convinced that this will happen).
