"P" pass preset for 2.5D re-lighting (Nuke)
« on: April 08, 2009, 09:17:51 PM »
Wow. no posts yet.
Hope that changes soon.

Anyway. I thought it might be a good idea to share our presets, as preset central doesn't seem to support them .
So here is a preset I did today after watching some videos at the foundry's website http://www.thefoundry.co.uk/pkg_training.aspx?ui=CBC2593A-2C9F-4EF9-84BE-C198B0171453
it's the 2.5D re-lighting ones.they are very techy but worth watching. Basically the dude from double negative uses a Normal-pass a P-pass and an occlusion-pass to do the relighting inside of nuke. P is basically the point in screenspace where the center is 0 in x and y and the values in x and y have positive and negative pixelvalues. the blue channel is the Z information. It looks like crap but it should work propperly. you can also download the nuke gizmo from the foundry's website.

so anyway I made a "P" pass preset and if any of you guys happen to composite in nuke then this might be for you.

cheers

Guillaume

Hey, Guillaume.

Great idea to script this preset. Since I am working with Nuke and the basic 3D stuff I fool around with is done with my lightwave I was quite happy when I read your post.
Thanks for the effort.

Just one thing: How do I implement it into LW? I am using LW 9.3 under Windows.
I am asking since all I found inside the ZIP was a CFG-file and ab EXR-image.

I appreciate your effort. The idea of getting point-positions in a pass from LW... makes life easier in relighting.

Greetings from Berlin,

Michael

The config file contains the settings/preset for shaderMeister, our global shading plugin for LW ( http://shaderMeister.db-w.com ).

Amongst other things it allows you to override the shading of all objects in a scene with a custom nodal set-up (the P pass just being one example).

Cheers,
Mike

Wooohooo, fast reply. Thanks Mike.
I'm usually around somewhere :D
So I am going to look into ShaderMeister.

Do that. If there's any open questions, feel free to post or PM me.

Hi,

The zip archive isn't working for me - reporting as corrupt in both WinZIP and WinRAR.  I know there's a z to world position in Fusion, but it's kind of messy, and it would be cool to be able to output the position pass from LW via exrTrader.

Thanks.

Hi Julian,
yeah, it seems to be corrupt. Let me search my drives to see if I still have it.

Cheers,
Mike

Bad news: I don't.

Good news: I could download this one and unzip it using 7-zip.

Worse news: I found nothing worthwhile in there, it seems to have been zipped on OSX which likes to screw with things.

Sorry :(
